Analysis - How do I use Filtering and Grouping of responses?

Support -

Question Grouping and Filtering are used to cross-reference respondents' answers.

For example, Filtering would allow you to look at how a certain question was answered only by respondents of a certain age bracket, or from a certain area.

Grouping allows you to directly cross-reference the responses to two questions.

Filtering responses

Step 1

From the consultation dashboard of the consultation you are looking at, click on either Responses Organised by Question or Responses Organised by Respondent link. These links are on the left hand side of the screen, under Responses to this Consultation.

Step 2

If using 'Responses organised by Respondent'

Under Filter responses by question, select the question you want to filter by and click Add Filter.

Tick the box next to the answer you want to filter by, and click Apply

You will now only see the responses that answered that question according to your selections. You can keep adding filters to narrow the number of responses down, in the same way.

To remove a filter, just click remove on the one you wish to get rid of.

If using 'Responses organised by Question'

Click on the first question you want to put in your filter. For this example, we are going to look at the question, 'Are you happy to attend extended hours appointments?'.

Step 3

Once you've selected a question you will see the Filtering and Grouping box.

We want to Filter 'Are you happy to attend extended hours appointments?' against the question 'Are you male or female?' with the answer 'female', so we select this option from the Add Your Filters drop down menu, click Add Filter, then tick the box next to the answer we want to see and click Apply

You will then be able to view all the responses which match the filters applied.

You can keep adding filters to narrow the number of responses down, in the same way.

To remove a filter, just click remove.

Grouping responses example

Step 1

From the consultation dashboard of the consultation you are looking at, click on Responses Organised by Question. This link is on the left hand side of the screen, under Responses to this Consultation.

Step 2

Click on the first question you want to cross-reference. We are going to stick with the question, 'Are you happy to attend extended hours appointments?' to show the difference between filtering and grouping.

Step 3

As above, once you've selected a question you will see the Filtering and Grouping box.

We want to Group 'Are you happy to attend extended hours appointments?' by answers to the question 'Are you male or female?', so we select this option from the Grouping drop down menu:

Then click Apply to apply the grouping. You will then be able to see how the question was answered according to the respondent's answer to the previous question - both in a table and a visualised chart.
