In Budget Simulator, Consequences provide the function of explaining the potential effect/impact resulting from a participant’s selections.

What is the purpose of a consequence?
A 'consequence' is the explanatory text from your organisation to inform the respondent of the impact and effect of their choice. It also offers the respondent the background information so they can make a more informed decision.
Written well, consequences can really add to the end user's experience and increase their understanding of the impact of their choices.
Where does a consequence appear to the participant?
When a participant moves a slider to indicate their priorities, a summary view of the consequence for each increment will appear on the right hand side of the screen. The participant then has the option to navigate to a more in depth description of the consequence by selecting the ‘more’ link.
Where do I write my consequences?
The platform needs to be populated with all copy, including consequences, by the admin. This is done in the Slider Details section (read more about this here).
There are two parts for each consequence - the Summary and Full details. Keep the Summary brief (140 character limit). The Full details section is where you can input a lot of detail (no character limit) which the participant can access via the 'more' link (see above screen shot).
When should I use the Consequence Template?
There are a number of reasons why using the Consequence Template could be useful;
If you are gathering information from numerous departments and individuals, the template can be shared, edited and sent back easily without the need to share admin passwords for the site.
It can act as a root source of all content, convenient to check for consistency, quality assurance and character limits.
If content needs sign off by one particular individual, this template is a useful source for them to visit and sample content across all Slider Groups and Slider Details.
How do I use the template?
The template is a basic structure to help you manage the content for your service groups and items. Simply copy and paste the template as many times as you need, one copy per slider item, gradually building up one whole document with all your content in.
Remember to clearly label the group and item name: adding numbers (e.g Group 1 of 3, or Item 2 of 6) or colours can further help you keep them in order.
Please bear in mind that populating the consequences, even when cutting and pasting, can take some time. For example, the Delib team tested populating the consequences in a demo consultation. We copied and pasted content for 25 Items within 7 groups. This took 4 hours.
Obviously it will take longer to collate and check all the content, but this template is a very useful tool to do just that.
